Learning doesn't have to happen in a classroom: the mobile learner

Nate Kimmons, Vice President, Enterprise Marketing, lynda.com

Advances in technology have revolutionized education. The new culture of mobility defies constraints of the training room and traditional e-learning. Previously, online training was available primarily on PCs and laptops. But that has changed dramatically. People are connecting to the Internet on devices that are increasingly portable. Affordable tablets and smartphones are used by 18 percent and 44 percent of Americans, respectively, reshaping how employees, students, and consumers access and receive information. As a result, learners increasingly look for innovative ways to access information.

Mobile accessibility helps organizations get the most out of their training investments—providing anytime, anywhere access to content, and enabling continuous learning that is more self-directed than ever. To be successful, a mobile online learning platform needs to be engaging and easily accessible. Find out what your organization needs to do, and what others have done, to meet the demand for a mobile learning strategy.

At the end of this session, you'll be able to describe the "mobile learner":

  • Who are they?
  • What do they want and expect from professional development?
  • Where do they want to receive training?
  • Why do they want mobile training options?
  • How can you meet their professional development needs?
