L&D needs clarity in how it communicates: Inside Learning Technologies and Skills December issue

In his editor’s comments, Donald Taylor feels that for L&D to be better understood, L&D professionals need to get smarter at how they talk about what they do: “When asked ‘what do you do?’ we often describe what we do in our daily lives - design elearning, manage the LMS, teach leadership, and from there it’s just a short step to 'oh, so you’re in training!'”

“Learning and development should not be defined by what it does, but by what it makes possible. There is nothing wrong with training; it just isn’t what most of us do and it prevents those around us from fully understanding the relevance of L&D. In reality L&D helps organisations to deliver value and to deliver on their promises. So there’s a different and better answer to ‘what do you do?’: I make it possible for my organisation to deliver on its promises,” Taylor argues.

Published in digital format, the December issue of Inside Learning Technologies & Skills is now available on the Learning Technologies and Learning and Skills event web sites and contains in-depth articles from leading contributors on the latest trends and developments as well as covering all the major issues affecting organisational learning.

December’s issue includes articles on a new way to distribute content; the next generation of e-learning; creating leaders for the 21st Century; and why L&D should get good at gaming.

L&D professionals can get the latest issue of Inside Learning Technologies & Skills free-of-charge.
