Mobile learning: how do I make it work?
The Learning Technologies Conference in January will be discussing, practically, how to implement mobile learning: the fastest-growing sphere of learning in business today. Keith Quinn, Scottish Services Council, Jacob Hodges, Office of Naval Research Global and Ros Sutton, PricewaterhouseCoopers, will be presenting their experiences in implementing mobile learning in the public, defence and private sectors before taking part in a questions and answers panel to help the conference to really get to grips with mobile learning.
Conference Chair Donald Taylor, looking ahead to the discussion on mobile learning, said: "Most L&D professionals will be considering mobile learning initiatives in 2012 as the L&D profession responds to enabling learning how and where people need it. The Learning Technologies Conference will be hearing about the efforts and experiences of three mobile learning pioneers."
Going Mobile in the public sector
Keith Quinn, Senior Education & Workforce Development Adviser, Scottish Social Services Council
The Scottish Social Services Council will present the first of the three sessions on mobile learning. Keith worked with a local authority to save money and improve the effectiveness of its learning delivery by switching from the classroom to a mobile learning solution on handheld devices. The audience was care workers with no history of technology use. Despite this, the results were very impressive.
Making defence sector mobile learning successful
Jacob Hodges, Associate Director, Office of Naval Research Global will share his expereinces of the defence sector's Mobile Learning Environment (MoLE) Project: a multinational project involving twenty-four nations world-wide. The project aimed to build a platform-independent set of tools for learning collaboration and medical information sharing on mobile devices.
Mobile learning in the private sector
For the past year Ros Sutton, a Learning Strategy Consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, has been investigating mobile learning solutions for PwC, bringing her up against a range of issues that will be familiar to anyone contemplating going mobile. As Ros moves from pilot to implementation, what are the lessons she's learnt for anyone else contemplating adopting a mobile learning platform?
The 'Mobile learning'' session takes place on Thursday 26 January 2012, from 15:30 - 16:30. To book places for January's conference, visit the Learning Technologies Conference programme and bookings web site.
