Designing e-learning

If you thought that storyboards were for Pixar and Disney, or for high-powered advertising executives making sales pitches, think again. The storyboard may have started life in the cartoon studio, helping hand animators designing frame by frame, but they have a use of their own in e-learning. Just as in the movies, they are used for plotting scenes, but - crucially - they can also be used as a tool for creativity and communication. Nobody likes to find out that their past week's work was all spent moving in the wrong direction. Using a story board to help you, you should never have to.

P1: A practical approach to storyboarding

Julie Wedgwood, Head of ICT Education Training and Development, Cheshire ICT Services – NHS

Over the past few years, many trainers have been given e-learning software and have been expected to naturally have the skills to immediately start developing e-learning.  Effective e-learning development requires more than just knowing how to use the software - it requires an understanding of how to shape an effective piece of learning in a different way to designing a live course. In this highly interactive session, expect to contribute and discuss:

  • What can go wrong when trainers create e-learning
  • Why storyboards are a great collaborative development tool
  • How storyboards will save you time
  • Why the devil is in the detail, and how to find it
  • How storyboards improve communication with SMEs, management, and the training team
