Setting the tone for 2025: How will L&D thrive?
The webinar series kicked off this year with two sessions exploring the most vital topic at that time: what 2025 holds for learning and development. Both webinars took different approaches to address the predictions; with each of them using research and insightful discussions to assess what this year meant for the industry. The audience shared their thoughts on what areas of L&D were going to be crucial in 2025, with the sessions opening the year with a focus on the months ahead.
Before the big event: Tools to streamline digital learning
The Learning Technologies Conference & Exhibition took place in April, and the webinars leading up continued the conversation of what 2025 holds for L&D, as well as exploring the latest technology in the L&D space. This anticipated what will be discussed at the event at Excel London, sparking the ideas and conversations that would carry the conference and exhibition.
These webinars introduced audiences to a range of L&D tools. The sessions explored a platform that allows a smarter approach to streamlining software training, and highlighted the mismatch between how learners perceive online programs and their actual business impact, offering strategies to align and enhance outcomes.
These webinars set the stage for the conversations ahead in L&D for 2025. They focused on closing the gap between perception and real impact, understanding transformative trends, and leveraging seamless guidance tools to make learning part of everyday workflows.
What came after: Expanding on Europe’s leading L&D event
The webinars took on the most relevant and current topics in learning and development, showcasing how short-form mobile-first video, especially TikTok, can drive engagement with younger workers and scale L&D efforts. There was a focus on Gen Z and the learning patterns that L&D teams need to focus on in order to engage with the new generation of learners.
The sessions also shared methodologies to demonstrate L&D’s ROI to stakeholders, linking learning more directly to measurable business outcomes. The aim was to shift the focus from L&D as a “nice-to-have” and into a clear value driver. To demonstrate the value of learning initiatives, organisations are using a mix of strategic and data-driven approaches. The webinar discussed how ‘learning engagement scores’ move beyond simple completion rates to assess interaction depth, real-world application, and learner satisfaction. Control groups and A/B testing help isolate the true effect of learning interventions, while stakeholder storytelling blends hard data with learner narratives to vividly illustrate progress and performance shifts.
The summer months: A heatwave of AI and learning engagement
The summer section of the series brought together practical and philosophical explorations of AI’s growing role in workplace learning. Organisations are increasingly identifying gaps in AI literacy, and so AI tools are being used not just for content creation but also for coaching, summarising information, and delivering personalised skill recommendations. A recurring theme in these sessions was the importance of trusted frameworks and human oversight to ensure ethical AI adoption, especially as these tools begin to influence how people learn and work on a daily basis.
Beyond toolsets, the webinars highlighted a shift toward adaptive, data-driven learning experiences. AI is now acting as a curator – helping filter and personalise content to meet learners where they are, rather than pushing generic materials. Even immersive learning technologies like VR are being enhanced with AI-powered simulations that adapt to user behaviour and assess outcomes such as confidence and retention. Across all sessions, AI was framed not as a replacement for human-led learning, but as a powerful co-pilot driving greater personalisation, reinforcement, and measurable impact.
