Press Release: Adaptive Workforce

APRIL 2, 2026

New research shows that a connected system of workforce intelligence and talent activation yields 11x greater adaptability and 6x higher productivity, with up to 8x stronger financial performance

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – April 2, 2026 – Cornerstone OnDemand Inc. -, a leader in workforce agility solutions, today announced the release of its new report, “An Adaptive Workforce: The Secret to Success in the Age of AI” conducted in partnership with Lighthouse Research. AI disruption requires workforce intelligence and activation systems to keep pace with new business strategies and employee skill demands, from on-demand mapping of internal capabilities to internal activation for effective staffing of new initiatives. The report highlights that when organisations activate workforce intelligence by connecting talent development to real-time action, the result is measurably more adaptive workforces and stronger business performance.

The findings send a clear signal: organisations gain a measurable edge by integrating skills intelligence and rapid activation into a single, connected system for talent mobility. Organisations with strong financial performance are 4x more likely to clearly define strategic skills aligned to business direction and 3–4x more likely to rely on system-enabled skills visibility.

“Many organisations have the intent, but few have the system,” said Guna Jayaraman, Chief AI Officer at Cornerstone. “The gap between workforce insight and real business performance isn't a motivational problem; it's a design flaw. When workforce intelligence and talent activation operate as a connected system, performance follows. On its own, it's a report. Connected to talent activation and manager behavior, it becomes the operating system your organisation runs on; turning insight into action, and action into performance. This study quantifies this from theory to directive.”

Additional insights from the report include:

  • Organisations that create a connected system between skills intelligence and execution maturity are 11x more likely to describe themselves as highly adaptable to change.
  • High performing organisations quickly flex existing talent: 57% of high-performing organisations can intentionally activate their workforce for new initiatives, compared to just 22% of reactive peers.
  • Alignment gaps remain visible to employees: While 37% of employers report enterprise-wide alignment between skills and strategy and 40% report robust visibility, only 19.2% of employees say skills align clearly with company direction and 28% feel their skills are consistently visible and used.

“Every leader is trying to figure out the best path forward right now. The research is clear: organisations, including many Cornerstone customers, that treat skills visibility and talent activation as connected operational infrastructure are moving faster on strategic priorities to keep pace with today’s AI transformation demands,” said Ben Eubanks, CEO and Head of Research at Lighthouse Research & Advisory. “This new report was posed at quantitatively examining what sets apart the high and low performers.”

The Workforce Intelligence and Adaptability Study examines how organisations activate talent at scale, combining new and longitudinal 2026 data with matched employer and employee perspectives. Drawing on responses from 591 learning, talent, and People executives and 500 currently employed workers, the research provides a two-sided view of how talent activation is designed, communicated, and experienced in practice.
