Q - Learning technologies team of the year

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) operates the second largest number of fire stations in England and employs 1740 Firefighters, 1150 of which are On-call firefighters. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the Service faced multiple, competing priorities. One of the toughest: how to keep firefighters competent, safe and current without being able to actively train.

Overnight, the Academy Online team needed to rethink how the Service delivered and received training.

Their solution was a  sea change that has reshaped the training delivery in countless ways. Despite the challenges of remote working, limited IT infrastructure or administrative permissions to install software, the team have moved away from the traditionally favoured classroom/practical environment to embrace a solely incorporated Learning Management System with online training content, virtual classrooms and video based learning.

Health Education & Improvement Wales

The leadership and succession programme has become HEIW’s flagship. The team’s work is gaining traction and interest across the UK as well as internationally. There is no doubt that the team has helped a young organisation find its place in the NHS Wales system and demonstrate added value to supporting frontline workers and improving patient care.

In a nutshell, the work accelerated in the digital arena by this team enabled the success of the HEIW Gwella digital portal which has also been beneficial in raising the profile and reputation of the Leadership & Succession programme of work. For such a newly established team, the results delivered by this team and their use of digital technology has been phenomenal!
