Beyond Engagement: How a Learning Game Drove Real-World Sustainability Impact
Award Category: Best technology-based learning game -- In this session, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and Pablo Media will showcase The Energy Efficiency Challenge, a learning game developed to help global staff reduce their energy demand and enable transition from diesel generators to solar power in humanitarian field offices.
We will share our development journey from early advocacy for gamification within NRC to the delivery of an award-winning learning experience.
Exploring how game mechanics were aligned with performance goals, we will show how the solution delivered organisational change across multiple countries with an example from Yemen.
Attendees will gain insight into how purposeful game-based learning supported behavioural and operational change.
- The aim of this session is to help attendees understand how:
- Internal advocacy and awareness-building can drive adoption of gamification within an organisation.
- To align game mechanics with performance objectives.
- To deliver effective game-based learning within realistic constraints, such as time and bandwidth limitations.
- The Energy Efficiency Challenge made a real-world impact enabling the shift to renewable energy which supports greener, cheaper and more resilient humanitarian response.
