The Learning Lab: How our values-driven team delivers learning with impact in cancer care and beyond
Award Category: Learning technologies team of the year -- We set out to build a team that makes a measurable difference not just to learners, but to the people they ultimately serve.
This session tells the story of that work, operating at the intersection of clinical care and learning design to support people at one of the most challenging points in their lives.
Drawing on my doctoral research, I share how Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) gives us a rigorous, systematic framework for designing learning that genuinely works. It starts with the people we're serving from day one, embedding impact into the design process itself, rather than measuring it as an afterthought.
The result is a team that stays focused on the problems and opportunities that matter most.
We'll also explore how our shared values, alongside a purposeful approach to our use of AI amplify this work.
- Discover how Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT), provides a practical framework for systematically designing learning experiences that target real problems and opportunities from the outset.
- Understand how to co-design with your target learners from day one, building impact in rather than bolting on evaluation afterwards.
- Take away a purposeful approach to embedding AI within an evidence-based learning strategy, one that starts with the problem to solve, not the technology available.
