L1S2 - Accessibility & Inclusive Learning
Accessibility in Learning: From Compliance to Meaningful Inclusion
Digital learning has expanded access to knowledge, but it has also introduced new barriers for many learners. Visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and situational challenges can all affect how individuals experience online content, yet accessibility is frequently addressed late in the design process, if at all.
This session explores what accessibility really means in the context of modern learning and development. Rather than focusing solely on regulations or technical standards, it examines the practical decisions that shape whether learning experiences are usable, equitable, and effective for diverse audiences. Participants will consider how design choices, technology platforms, content formats, and organisational priorities influence accessibility outcomes.
The discussion will highlight common gaps between intention and execution, including the tension between speed of delivery and inclusive design, misconceptions about cost and complexity, and the risk of treating accessibility as a one-time compliance task rather than an ongoing capability. Attendees will gain realistic strategies for improving accessibility incrementally, building awareness across teams, and embedding inclusive practices into everyday workflows.
