Christopher Balmford
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer,
In-Game Learning
Christopher is a former lawyer and a leading advocate and practitioner of plain language. He is the founder of ingamelearning.com, which creates online training games based on a simple idea: play is the brain’s most effective way to learn. Its first product teaches people how to write in plain language. The game is built on a training course Christopher developed over more than 25 years through his consultancy, Words and Beyond, where he has helped organisations improve communication through plain-language training, cultural change, and document redesign. As CEO of ingamelearning.com, Christopher also draws on his experience as founder and CEO of Cleardocs, an online legal document provider acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2011. Earlier in his career, he established and led the Plain Language Department at Phillips Fox (now DLA Piper) and was later seconded to AMP to support a large-scale plain language and cultural change initiative.
