As the UK's National Measurement Institute, NPL develops and maintains the national primary measurement standards. It is a Public Corporation owned by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). As part of its remit, NPL offers a range of training courses and qualifications to both academic and industry clients.

In 2019 NPL partnered with Titus Learning to build a bespoke platform capable of accommodating the scientific and mathematical content required, aligning with the NPL brand and aesthetic, and facilitating easy access for a wide range of users.

In this presentation, we will introduce the work of NPL and how this is supported by Moodle. We will explore the need for the system to support key requirements defined by NPL, such as asynchronous learning, and being commercially available, and how a bespoke LMS can support a wide range of businesses and not just those typically associated with e-learning.

  • Understanding the difference between a proprietary system and a bespoke one.
  • The benefits of working with open-source technology.
  • Understanding how all businesses will see benefit from implementing a learning management system, and not just those typically associated with e-learning.
