Fewer, Better Meetings: Creating an Async-First Workplace Culture
Meetings are an integral part of the working day for many of us. But if we're honest, they too often turn out to be inefficient time wasters that distract from the actual work and are also often cumbersome to organize. It's a problem that's amplified in these days of hybrid workplaces and distributed teams. Is it possible to create a strategy that helps to have fewer, but better meetings? Guided by this question, we conducted a field trial at our own company in which we did away with meetings for a month and sought asynchronous ways to coordinate and communicate. In this talk, we'll share the ways we replaced meetings, the role of video, what we learned along the way, and the means that positively impacted employee satisfaction, work attitudes, and meeting density.
