T1S5 - VR in learning

Thursday 18 April 2024
Conference Theatre 1
Skills, talent and learning , Tools and technologies , Future L&D
It’s no longer the stuff of technological dreaming. Virtual Reality (VR) is here today and being put to good use in learning and development. In this session, we explore the strengths and practicalities behind implementing VR to support learning for a range of applications. And, as always, it’s never just about the technology. Good communication is an essential part of any implementation.

How virtual reality is being used for learning today

The journey from novelty to practical tool didn’t take long, and in this session, we explore the very practical use of Virtual Reality (VR) in workplace training in a range of different contexts. We’ll examine VR's capability to simulate authentic scenarios, enhancing both learner engagement and practical skills. We’ll also look at how it sits against video, and how the two can be used together.

And as well as the technical side of things, we’ll consider effectively deploying these technologies – how do people react? How can you ensure a positive first reaction to something that most people haven’t used before, and may well be wary of?

  • Using VR as part of your training
  • When to use VR and when to stick with video
  • Overcoming training challenges innovatively
  • Simulating real-life scenarios for effective learning
  • The crucial importance of culture and communication
