T2S4 - Curiosity in learning

05 May 2022
Conference Theatre 2
Learning engagement , Professional development , Talent and learning
Learning is at its most exciting when started by a spark of curiosity. And without that spark, it’s often hard to summon the motivation to either start or to continue learning. Here we explore what organisations today are doing to encourage curiosity at an individual and an organisational level. We’ll look both at global research into curiosity and examine how one employer is aiming to turn itself into a curious organisation.

How a deliberate approach to curiosity can fuel a workplace learning culture
Stefaan van Hooydonk
Simon Brown

We often think of curiosity in reference to children, but seldom consider it at work, but it may well be a crucial ingredient in individual and organisational learning. In this session, Stefaan van Hooydonk will share the results of his research into curiosity and the way managers, teams and organisations approach it, globally, while Simon Brown will share what’s happening at Novartis, as it strives to promote a culture of curiosity company-wide.

  • The traits of curious leaders
  • How curiosity can be promoted and supported
  • Intrinsic and extrinsic curiosity and the need to balance them
  • What happens when curiosity is stifled
  • Driving curiosity in your organisation
