Creating Web 3D Spaces for Education
Are we on the cusp of mass adoption of virtual metaverse spaces for classrooms, employee training and university campuses? Will students and teachers roam virtual halls, attend virtual tutoring sessions and create humanoid/ video game avatars to engage with other students?
Depending on who you ask, the metaverse is everything and nothing. A place where everyone is already meeting to work, live and play out their lives digitally. Or a place that really does not even exist yet. Either way, it is a place of fascination for technophiles and technophobes alike.
According to a popular definition, the metaverse is an interactive space that combines real-life social interaction with extended reality (XR), and has been labelled as game-changing by many experts across a wide range of industries – including education.
In this presentation, we will explore key building blocks for the Metaverse/Web3 and the hurdles still to be overcome for education. We will focus on connecting and rendering people and places in real-time, spatial audio, and if immersive hardware is necessary for initial deployment.
This session will include practical examples of what can be deployed today and what is still to come.
